Virginia Research Investment Fund
About the VRIF
The Virginia Research Investment Fund, or VRIF, was established in 2016 as part of the GO Virginia initiative to foster economic development and job creation through competitive grants that supported innovative and collaborative research, development, and commercialization efforts among and between public institutions of higher education and the private sector. During its four-year tenure, the VRIF was administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and overseen by the Virginia Research Investment Committee (VRIC). The VRIC awarded $5.5 million in support of five projects, with two projects totaling $3M awarded in FY2020. Three Virginia public institutions of higher education lead the projects, which include collaborators from higher ed, the private sector, and government.
