SBIR/STTR Proposal Prep Essentials with NIH Focus

All Day Event

The government’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs make over $2.6 billion in high-risk, non-dilutive capital available to innovative small companies annually. Join SBIR/STTR expert, Becky Aistrup, and learn SBIR/STTR program basics, including eligibility requirements, the difference between SBIR and STTR, participating agencies and tips for success. Session will focus on the National Institutes of Health SBIR/STTR programs.


The National Institutes of Health (NIH) SBIR/STTR programs award over $800M each year to early stage entrepreneurs performing high risk research that if proved feasible will have a big impact.  Becky will cover the distinquishing features and technology areas addressed by each of the agencies, getting reqistered so you can submit, preparing proposal components for maximum impact, what reviewers expect, and more.  


This session is specifically designed to help those who may be considering the January 6, 2017 NIH SBIR/STTR solicitation deadlines -- learn how to plan your approach, contact the agency, and write a compelling and compliant proposal.


NIH SBIR Program Managers from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Institute for Alergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID) will provide tips regarding their Intitutes and will be available to meet with during lunch.

9AM-noon:  SBIR / STTR Training intro, background, participating agencies, what's new in SBIR, funding amounts, agency differences, and more

12:00-12:15:  Tips from the National Cancer Institute -- presented by Patti Weber, SBIR Program Manager, NCI

12:15-12:30: Tips from the National Institute of Alergy & Infectious Diseases -- presented by Natalia Kruchinin, SBIR Program Manager, NIAID

12:30-1PM -- LUNCH (Provided)

1:30-4:30PM:  NIH SBIR Proposal Preparation

4:45-6PM:  CIT Funding Programs Overview -- this session will provide details on CIT's efforts across the Commonwealth, announce and describe the 2017 Commowealth Research Commercialization Fund grant solicitation, details about the CIT GAP Fund, and details about CIT's SBIR/STTR Support Program.  This session is also available for standalone registration at no cost for those not attending the SBIR workshop.
