NIH SBIR/STTR Proposal Prep Workshop, Chartlottesville VA

All Day Event

This 1.5 day workshop presents an in depth guide to writing a compelling NIH SBIR/STTR proposal. The NIH has over $800M available each year via SBIR/STTR, funding early stage, high risk research on projects that have a high potential to make a big impact. Learn how to plan, engage with the NIH, and begin to write a compelling and compliant proposal. This event is especially useful for those targeting the April 5, 2018 NIH SBIR/STTR deadlines. Presented by Lisa Kurek of BBC ETC.



February 13:

  • 9:00AM-10:00AM:  Intro to SBIR
  • 10AM-Noon: NIH SBIR/STTR Backgound, funding levels, planning your approach
  • 12:00-12:15PM: Resources available to Virginia based firms to support your SBIR and STTR; an overview of the CIT GAP Fund; Overview of the Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) grant program and info on the next solicitation.
  • 12:15-12:45PM: Networking LUNCH provided
  • 12:45PM-4:00PM: NIH SBIR/STTR Proposal Preparation: Details of writing an NIH SBIR/STTR proposal; Telling your story in only 6 pages; Doing your homework; a section by section look at writing your proposal; NIH SBIR/STTR budget preparation.
  • 4:00-5:00PM:  NIH BRAIN Initiative -- An overview of the NIH BRAIN Initiative and how that effort is accelerating the development and application of innovative technologies to produce a revolutionary new dynamic picture of the brain.  Presented by Stephanie Fertig, NINDS

February 14:

  • 9:00AM-10AM:  Conclude Proposal Prep from Prior Day
  • 10AM-12:30PM:  NIH SBIR/STTR Commercialization Plan Development
  • 12:30-12:45PM: Overview of Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research -- FNLCR is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center dedicated to improving human health through discovery and innovation in the biomedical sciences and conducting research in areas including cancer, AIDS and infectious disease. The FNLCR’s mission also includes training and health information dissemination, consistent with that of the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
