Dr. Kent Murphy is a three time Tibbett's Award recipient for excellence in SBIR. He was recognized as Industrialist of the Year by the Governor of Virginia and is a tenured Professor at Virginia Tech. Kent has been the Founder, Chairman and CEO of five companies that have all utilized SBIRs to commercial technology. Four companies were sold and one IPO. Technology areas have included developing products for the oil and gas industry, drug discovery tools, wireless remote asset monitoring, fiber optic test and measurement gear, cyber security supply chain verification, and shape sensing for surgical robotic control. Currently Kent is co-Founder and CEO of Axon Connected working in artificial intelligence and optical instrumentation.

He has been an executive, serial entrepreneur and angel investor. Experience includes CEO of an Intel Capital portfolio company, M&A for a $150M public company, $300M+ SBIR contracts, chairman of an IEEE standard working group. Currently founder of 2 startups, investor of 6 companies and adviser for multiple companies
