CIT Success Stories

Shenandoah Broadband

The Town of Shenandoah is a rural community of 2,300, tucked between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Massanutten Ridge. In 2002, town leaders and economic development officials realized the town needed broadband access, but they needed guidance and financial assistance as they pursued grants for broadband deployment. CIT assisted them with their pursuit of federal support.

CIT provided a modest grant to support proposal development and helped Shenandoah navigate the federal grant process. With CIT’s support, Shenandoah’s officials secured a $643,493 Community-Oriented Connectivity Broadband Grant from the Federal Rural Utility Service.
The Town of Shenandoah now offers high-speed wireless internet to its residential and business communities at affordable rates.
