CIT Connect’s Health IT Practice encompasses CIT’s technology partnership with the Virginia Health Quality Center (VHQC) in the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Regional Extension Center program. As part of this technology partnership, CIT Connect provides consulting services to VHQC and its partner agencies.


The Regional Extension Center (REC) program is a $600 million program of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

CIT is a partner of Virginia’s statewide REC, Virginia Health IT (VHIT). CIT managed the vendor selection process to identify the VHIT Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Solution Partners. CIT Connect worked with VHIT to manage the solution partners and assist 2,285 Virginia primary care physicians in small practices transition over and attain meaningful use on EMRs by February 8, 2012.



Million Hearts Initiative

The Million Hearts initiative is a program focused on cardiovascular disease prevention with the goal of preventing one million heart attacks and strokes by 2017.

CIT Connect actively participates in Virginia’s Millions Hearts initiative by sharing its experience, ideas, and resources in the area of health information technology. CIT’s work with the Virginia Regional Extension Center and electronic health records provide technical expertise in the three local health departments that are the focus of the initiative.
