DANVILLE, Va.—Linda Hutson Green, president of the Dan River Business Development Center in Danville, has been elected to the board of directors of the National Business Incubation Association. Her three-year term begins Oct. 1.

Green has been president of the Dan River Business Development Center since 2004 and an NBIA member since 2000. Prior to directing the incubator, she spent 15 years working with technology-based entrepreneurs through Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology wherein she also served as the Executive Director for the Virginia Research and Technology Advisory Council.
Dan River was a finalist for NBIA’s 2008 Incubator of the Year award in multi-use category. In addition, Dan River was named an NBIA Soft Landings Incubator in 2008, recognizing the program for having specialized programs and/or facilities for helping foreign companies break into new markets.

Business incubation programs like the Dan River Business Development Center catalyze the process of starting and growing companies by providing entrepreneurs with the expertise, networks and tools they need to make their ventures successful. NBIA estimates that in 2005 alone, North American incubators assisted more than 27,000 start-up companies that provided full-time employment for more than 100,000 workers and generated annual revenue of more than $17 billion.

NBIA’s board of directors, made up of representatives from leading business incubation programs, governs the organization. The group provides strategic oversight for the association business, including educational programming, finances, member recruitment/services and publications.
