Governor Northam Announces Creation of the Virginia Founders Fund

Governor Ralph Northam announces the creation of the Virginia Founders Fund, a new seed-stage fund that increases access to venture capital in Virginia. The fund, administered by CIT, promotes further collaboration and support for regionally based innovation initiatives and increases investment opportunities for Virginia-based entrepreneurs traditionally underrepresented in venture capital.

VT team develops novel 3-D printed high-performance polymer that could be used in space

A Virginia Tech team has recently received considerable press on their work in 3D printing, as, notably, their discovery on the mSl of the polyimide Kapton stands as the highest temperature polymer 3D printed. The team has been featured in numerous outlets. Virginia Tech’s work was funded through CRCF in FY2012 to develop a micro-stereolithography (mSl) systems and nanocomposite photopolymers for the fabrication of 3D microscale nanocomposites.

Governor McAuliffe Announces Virginia Tech to Receive $1.1 Million Grant from the Virginia Research Investment Fund

Virginia Tech’s Dr. Rafael Davalos was the recipient of a $1.1M Virginia Research Investment Fund (VRIF) award to support a medical device that will use low-energy electric fields to treat brain tumors. Davalos, through his role in Virginia Tech and spin-out company VoltMed, is the recipient of multiple CRCF awards that has also helped develop this technology to its current stage.

Dr. Michael Friedlander Named One of 50 Most Influential Virginians

Dr. Michael Friedlander, VP for Health Sciences and Technology at Virginia Tech and Executive Director of the VT Carilion Research Institute, has been named one of the 50 most influential Virginians by Virginia Business. Friedlander is a multi-solicitation CRCF award recipient, namely for the Eminent Researcher Recruitment Program, through which he has recruited talented and connected researchers to Virginia Tech from institutions across the country, strengthening Tech’s research superiority.

Justus Graham, CEO of Counter-Drone Research Corporation was interviewed in a June 2017 issue of Military Training and Simulation Magazine. CDRC is an FY2016 and FY2017 CRCF award recipient for their work to detect and localize rogue UAS and remotely seize control of the vehicle to force a safe landing.

UVA Engineering Tapped to Lead $27.5 Million Center to Reinvent Computing

UVA recently announced the establishment of CRISP (Center for Research in Intelligent Storage and Processing in Memory), which will bring together researchers from eight universities to remove the separation between memories that store data and processers that operate on the data. CRCF funding helped UVa researchers develop the preliminary results that helped them become selected.

CRCF FY2016 awardee, Pancopia, Inc., receives Excellence in Technology Transfer Project of the Year 2017 award from the FLC

CRCF FY2016 awardee, Pancopia, Inc., has been awarded an Excellence in Technology Transfer Project of the Year 2017 award from the Federal Lab Consortium (FLC) for the development of a next-generation water purification system for NASA’s use on the International Space Station and future Mars missions. CIT Announces Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) FY2014 Spring Solicitation Awards
