New Online Survey to Benchmark Virginia Business
and Household Broadband Usage

(July 13, 2010)- The Center for Innovative Technology (CIT), serving as the Commonwealth of Virginia’s designee for broadband mapping strategy and implementation initiatives, will be launching a new online survey to obtain information regarding Virginia broadband access and usage as part of the Commonwealth’s broadband mapping and planning project. The survey will provide businesses, decision-makers and citizens with the most comprehensive and current information on the status, uses, and challenges associated with high-speed broadband services in Virginia.

The survey will focus on households and businesses throughout Virginia and will collect information on broadband utilization, benefits, drivers for increasing adoption and the barriers to uptake of broadband services. The results will provide a better understanding of the economic impact of broadband deployment and how businesses and households incorporate broadband technologies and applications into their daily work and lives.

The survey is expected to launch mid-August remain open through mid-September. An effort will be made to capture responses from as many businesses and residences as possible during the survey period. E-mail notifications containing a link to the survey will be distributed, however, those who do not receive an e-mail but are interested in participating, can access through a link on www.wired.virginia.gov or by clicking the State Survey link on www.bvu-optinet.comFor those without internet connectivity, paper surveys will be made available.  For additional information on this initiative, please contact Caroline Stolle at Caroline.stolle@cit.org or 804-692-2556.
