State, Local & Federal Support for Virginia's Cyber Security Community

This special session will highlight some of the programs available to startup and early stage cyber security companies in Virginia. The Commonwealth has developed initiatives to foster the development of this growth industry across the state, and the local Hampton Roads region is developing additional strategic programs. Meet with key cyber industry program leaders, other cyber security focused entrepreneurs, and learn how to use these key programs to further develop your technology.

  • 1:30-1:45PM: CIT’s SBIR/STTR Support Program – SBIR Tips for Cyber Research, SBIR intro, who funds Cyber, next steps, and how CIT helps small tech firms apply for SBIR funding. Presented by Robert Brooke, Director, Federal Funding Program, CIT
  • 1:45-2:00PM: MACH37 Cyber Accelerator – This state effort has launched over 50 startup cyber companies since its creation. Learn how this program invests in and supports the creation of Cyber startups across Virginia, and when the next cohort will take place. Presented by Marco Rubin, CIT GAP Funds
  • 2:00-2:20: Tips from a Cyber Security Entrepreneur – A special presentation from a recent graduate of MACH37 Cyber Accelerator, discussing their participation, how they used that and other programs to develop their technology, and insights for other Cyber Security companies in Virginia. Presented by Mark Jaster, 418 Intelligence
  • 2:20-2:40PM: CRCF Grants – The Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) provides $50K-$100K grants to small tech firms and university research projects across the Commonwealth. Cyber Security is a sector of high importance in the program – learn about the next solicitation, what types of projects have recently been funded, tips to improve your chances, and more. Presented by Nancy Vorona, CIT

  • 3:00-3:15PM: HRCyber Initiative -- The Hampton Roads Cybersecurity Education, Workforce and Economic Development Alliance (HRCyber) is a collaborative partnership between educational institutions, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private employers focused on developing educational pathways that provides a capable cybersecurity workforce for the region.   • 3:15-3:25: ODU Cyber -- Update on cyber security academic initiatives at ODU, including internship program expansion and service learning programs. Presented by Brian Payne, Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, Old Dominion University
  • 3:25-3:40PM: Tidewater Community College – Working with eight other public colleges and universities across Virginia to create a stat of the art platform for cyber security education. Hear an update on this effort and learn how this can help the small business community in Virginia. Presented by Robert Guess, Director, TCC Cyber Center
  • 3:40-3:50PM: Resources from ODU Center of Enterprise Innovation – Support for early stage tech firms from ODU Innovation Center, Hampton Roands Procurement Assistance (PTAC), Veteran's Business Outreach, Womens Business Center, Technology Application Center, and Gov2Coms. Presented by Marty Kaszubowski, Executive Director, ODU Center for Enterprise Education

-Economic Developers:  $20 per person

-All Others: (Non VIrginia companies and business service providors): $75 per person

-Keynote & Reception Sponsorship -- two available at $500 each.
