CIT is proud to partner with Virginia Tech to present this unique SBIR/STTR training meant to be accessible to university researchers, postdocs, grad students and the small business community. Attend all or part of this two and a half day training.
The first two days are delivered in morning and afternoon sessions, allowing the attendee the choice between a morning and afternoon session in order to accommodate busy schedules. The third day is a morning only session. Attend one, two, or all three days for one low price. Registrants will be contacted to verity which sessions they plan to attend.
April 14: SBIR/STTR Program Details (8AM-Noon or 1PM-5PM)
This session will be delivered as a morning session and afternoon session – attend the session that fits your schedule. Topics covered include: A basic intro to SBIR/STTR; compare/contrast various agencies, including NSF, DOD and NIH; A look at what is new in SBIR/STTR; tips to compete more effectively; resources available to Virginia based firms to support your SBIR and STTR submissions.
April 15: NSF Proposal Preparation (8AM-Noon or 1PM-5PM)
This session will be delivered as a morning session and afternoon session – attend the session that fits your schedule. The NSF SBIR and STTR programs provide over $160M each year in SBIR/STTR funding. 9 broad topic areas provide a breadth of opportunities for early stage researchers who need funding to show proof of concept and funding to build out the technology for commercial use. Topics covered at this session include: Details of putting together an NSF proposal; Doing your homework; A section by section look at writing your proposal; NSF SBIR/STTR budget preparation.
April 16: SBIR/STTR Commercialization Planning (8AM-Noon)
This session is offered as a morning session only. Topics covered include: SBIR/STTR Commercialization – what this means at various agencies, including NSF, NIH and DOD; Tips for credible commercialization plans; An in depth look at the NSF Commercialization plan.
University researchers, postdocs, and grad students are encouraged to view the pre-recorded “SBIR/STTR for PostDocs & Grad Students” and “SBIR/STTR Eligibility Requirements” webinars to better understand SBIR/STTR. These are both free to Virginia based university personnel and Virginia small businesses. Click HERE for info.

Virginia University: $40 for all three days
Virginia Small Tech Firms: $75 per person for all three
