Governor’s Next Generation Weekend Education and Workforce

08:30 AM - 08:30 PM

Sign up for the Governor’s Next Generation Weekend, which includes the Governor’s STEM Summit, Innovation Education Reception and High School of the Future StartUp.

To meet the needs of the current and future workforce, a drastic change in education is needed for Virginia to be nationally and globally competitive. At the Governor’s STEM Summit, educators, businesses and communities will come from around the Commonwealth to engage in the conversation of Virginia’s next steps in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Panels and breakout sessions will discuss the existing and imminent issues of Virginia’s workforce, education and regional efforts.

The High School of the Future StartUp will attract educators, administrators, entrepreneurs, businesses, community leaders, designers, developers, and innovators to brainstorm, team up and collaborate on the future of Virginia’s high schools.  Teams or individuals prepare a blueprint or concept that will be pitched to a group of innovators and judges. Renowned experts and coaches will assist each team to expand on the initial ideas for a presentation due at the end of the day. Participants may join a team even though they did not come with an idea to pitch.  The concepts will be available to provide additional resources to K-12 stakeholders across Virginia’s school divisions.
